Hepatitis C roadshow nominated for award

An awareness raising roadshow which toured Hampshire and was supported by The Hepatitis C Trust has been nominated for an award.

The 'Love Yourself – Get Tested HOMER P2P Hepatitis C Mentoring Roadshow' has been shortlisted in the 'Best Patient Support Programme' category at the Quality in Care Awards for Hepatitis C (QiC).

The campaign was organised by the Crime Reduction initiative (CRi) in Hampshire and took place in February this year.

The roadshow visited sites in Aldershot, Basingstoke, Andover, Winchester, Fareham, Havant, Ringwood, New Milton, Totton and Eastleigh offering testing with the help of The Hepatitis C Trust's testing van.

The QiC Hepatitis C Awards will be presented at BASL 2014 in Newcastle on Tuesday 16th September.

What is HOMER?

Solent NHS Trust together with CRi provides HOMER (Hampshire Operational Model of Effective Recovery) substance misuse services across Hampshire. A major part of the service offered by HOMER is a volunteering and mentoring scheme.

An estimated 23,000 people in the South East Region have Hepatitis C. The Hepatitis C Trust (2013) ranked NHS Southampton General Hospital as sixth in the country for Hepatitis C hospital admissions in 2011/12.
